Description

Learn To Strop Stropping is more of a fine-tuning process that helps keep the edge of your blade sharp between uses. It's like daily maintenance. You strop on the leather surface, not the rough leather bottom, but you use the very top of the strop. Stropping is a motion that pulls the cutting edge of a blade away from a strip of leather in order to sharpen the blade. It’s a great method of keeping a razor clean and easy to use as it produces a very sharp final edge. Stropping helps smooth the rough edges off your blade and sets the teeth in alignment—it gives a straight razor a keen edge to help make shaving easier. Hanging strops are the most common. They consist of a canvas strap and a leather strip. There are two key things to consider when you are stropping your razor: DRAW BLADE AWAY- Always draw the blade away from the cutting edge so that the razor doesn’t dig into the leather. BE CONSISTENT - Hold the razor at the same bevel angle consistently throughout the stropping process. DON'T ROLL THE EDGE- Please don't raise the angle up or lower it down, you will destroy the edge.

The leather is too thick and not of a quality for stope use. Good stopes use thin, soft, and well worked leather. This is very thick and inflexible leather.this is a good strop for the money eleven bucks you get what you pay for. lots of bad reviews but what do people expect for eleven bucks. works for meThe seller has the type 2 strop listed as a dual sided strop much like the type 1, but with both sides being leather instead of one side leather and the other canvas. In my confusion as to which side was which, I contacted the seller and they told me it was only a one sided strop. Had I known that, I could have spent a couple of more $ and got the one I wanted first time out. I've already tried to use it with no success because I'm evidently ruining any progress i make on one side by trying to use the other. Unless you only want a single sided strop, avoid the type 2.Update: After a couple of messages back and forth with the seller, I think I might have some idea of what they meant and how to use it. If it works out, I'll be back to change the rating and review.I got this in order to put a better edge on my blades, from the pictures it looks like its very quality driven and looks like it has some weight to it. After holding it and using it, this thing is feather light and just feels almost like nothing. You can tell that its not very quality driven, its usable but dont expect it to be the same quality as a barbershop or like the one your grandpa had. It almost feels like cardboard. I used it once and the emblem fell off. I rated it 3 stars because it does work. This strop is really good quality and I use my knives on it all the time. This works great on my butcher knives. My pocket knives. It’s really thick. About 1/5 of an inch thick. 2 inches wide. About 11 inches length of workable stropping leather. I’ve always used my old Levi’s leather belt for stropping, this works so much better. Not the nicest strop, but totally not the worst. Much better than the one I didn't have previously. It is on the smaller side in terms of length and the leather seems more like suede. Construction seems solid, though does lack a swivel. Would totally recommend at this price point!Nice item to put that fine edge on you knife.
